Walter Civitareale was born in 1954 in Luxembourg. He studied with Pierre Sancan, Jacques Parrenin and Pierre Max Dubois at the Conservatory of Paris. From 1979 on he studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, taking courses in piano, composition, orchestration and conducting.

He has written several orchestral works, chamber music, piano pieces and a ballet. In 1984 he was invited to the International May Festival in Moscow to perform his Piano concerto. In 1988 his Concerto for bass clarinet and wind orchestra was premiered at the 3rd International May Festival in Leningrad. Since 1983 Walter Civitareale has given many concerts all over Europe, also recording for different radio stations. He has frequently played with the Russian cellist Daniil Chafran. As a piano soloist he played with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. Walter Civitareale is a piano teacher at the Conservatory in Luxembourg.

Walter Civitareale est né à Luxembourg en 1954. Il a fait ses études au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris chez Pierre Sancan, Jacques Parrenin et Pierre Max Dubois. En 1979 il a été admis au Conservatoire Tchaïkovski de Moscou, où il a étudié le piano, la composition, l'orchestration et la direction d'orchestre.

Il a composé plusieurs œuvres pour grand orchestre, des pièces de musique de chambre, des œuvres pour piano ainsi qu'un ballet. Il a été invité à jouer son Concerto pour piano à Moscou dans le cadre du Festival de Mai de 1984. Au 3e Festival de Mai à Leningrad en 1988 a lieu la première de son Concerto pour clarinette basse et orchestre d'harmonie. Depuis 1983 Walter Civitareale a entrepris de nombreuses tournées dans toute l'Europe et a participé à de nombreux enregistrements pour diverses radios. Il a de même joué avec le violoncelliste Daniil Chafran et avec l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Leningrad. Walter Civitareale est professeur de piano au Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.
